The ocean literally stretches out from horizon to horizon, with not even the slightest glimmer of a patch of land visible, in any direction, from any porthole, or outdoor deck areas. Royal Caribbean pulls a ship from Europe for the winter cruises

The m/v Navigator of the Seas will begin a somewhat surprise winter season sailing from Fort Lauderdale, instead of from Barcelona, Spain. The change is slated to begin November 20, 2011, for the 2011-2012 winter season itineraries.

Princess Cruiseline reinstating Egypt for visits

On May 15, Princess Cruiseline will be returning to Egypt as a normal port of call, after dropping the country due to dangers to passengers during the riots that beset Cairo, and other middle eastern countries, over recent weeks to months. Their ships Star Princess, Dawn Princess, Ocean Princess, and, Pacific Princess, were told to resume their original itineraries.

Carnival is having fun with their onboard eye-catching oddities designed, at least appearingly, to be similar to amusement park mascots, like mickey mouse and minnie mouse.

For Carnival, they are hidden in plain sight mind-ops. to keep public drunkeness and free cabin towel pilfering at an all time low. Or, perhaps, at an all time high. Time and record-keeping a year from now might tell.

Mexican cruise ship fire, power loss, and evacuation

MEXICO CITY -- A generator fire knocked out power to the ship of a newly started Mexico-based cruise line, forcing the evacuation of nearly 800 passengers and crew Saturday, Oaxaca state authorities said.

The fire aboard the Ocean Star Pacific was quickly controlled Saturday morning and there were no injuries, said Luis Zarate Carballido, spokesman for the Oaxaca Civil Protection Agency.

He said 522 passengers and 226 crew members were being evacuated by catamaran to the port of Huatulco and would then be flown to Mexico City. Zarate said the ship was about 6 miles (10 kilometers) offshore and would be towed to Huatulco for repairs.

The vessel belonging to the new Ocean Star Cruise line was headed from Huatulco to Acapulco, resorts on Mexico's southern Pacific coast, according to reservations employee Carlos Salazar.

A company website says the ship has a capacity for 1,050 passengers. The new line that serves only Mexican ports started operations earlier this month, according to the website.

Zarate said civil protection workers were on hand to help passengers when they reached Huatulco.

Seattle gets its' first cruise ship of the season...

The m/v Symphony arrived this morning at Seattle. Her propellors churned the Pacific while the vessel, owned by Crystal Cruises, headed towards the day's port of call. She is capable of carrying over 900 passengers, with crew numbering over 500, in addition to those on her passenger. Crystal Cruises is a top of the field leader providing luxury ships.

Cunard and a woman as Captain...

     Tradition, at heart from cherishsed memories, including Cunard Cruise Line's, just promoted a woman to be Captain of one of their ships. She's been at the helm since December of 2010.

     Inger Olsen has been working on ocean-going ships since 16 when she started to work on a cargo ship. Now, aged 43, she is serving as Captain of the Queen Victoria for long renown owners of the Queen Elizabeth II, called by many the QEII, and other prized passenger carriers.
